Director of Development

Global Forest Generation

Position Description

$100-$120K

We are looking for a stellar Director of Development for Global Forest Generation to bring our fundraising efforts and our organization to the next level. Could it be you?

Global Forest Generation (GFG) is a US-based 501(c)3 NGO. We develop large-scale forest ecosystem conservation and restoration partnerships with local leaders and communities, which are essential for climate resilience and the protection of biodiversity, water, and livelihoods. Local community participation is integral to every step of our strategy to restore fully-functioning ecosystems. We ensure that long-term forest stewardship by local and indigenous communities sustains their livelihoods and cultures; and provide a practical solution to tackle the global and regional biodiversity and climate crisis at scale. GFG is contributing to the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration and the World Economic Forum’s Trillion Tree campaign 1t.org to implement immediate, comprehensive, long-term nature-based solutions to climate change. Our first large-scale initiative, Accion Andina, is protecting and restoring critical native forest ecosystems in the Andes. In 2023, we were honored that our initiative won the 2023 EarthShot Prize for Restoring the Earth, a transformative recognition for the scale, quality and effectiveness of our work in the Andes. And there is more to come!

While we are proud of what we have achieved to date, it’s a long way to truly delivering at the scale and pace our current situation on Earth dictates and we won’t stop here: Our goal is to not only continue to grow Acción Andina, a now globally-recognized initiative in South America, but also to expand our work to other areas of the world, replicating our proven model globally.

Therefore, we are looking for an outstanding Development Director to lead our development division and team to grow our revenue. This person should be a proven change-maker, with the experience, networks, track record in the nature and conservation space and values it needs to grow our organization’s budgets. The Development Director, supervised by the CEO, will  strategize with and support the CEO’s fundraising activities, continue to develop a team of 2-5 people, and will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer to operationalize funding revenue into our programs.  This is a fully remote position, based out of the US.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ensure and grow significantly GFG’s annual and long-term funding to meet our current and growing programmatic and operational goals.
  • Develop and execute GFG’s fundraising scaling plan, including strategy, supporting systems and support for growing major donors, foundations, corporate philanthropy, and the individual donor base.
  • Develop and lead an effective and lean GFG Development division.

Specific Duties include:

  • Creating a strong GFG Development Strategy and leading a team to executing it.
  • Developing and managing GFG’s Development division’s annual budget.
  • Some travel possible to meet with high-level donors, and to international project sites with donors to demonstrate impact.

Qualifications and Background:

  • Passionate about native forest conservation and restoration and knowledgeable about environmental issues.
  • Senior level leader and manager with at least 7-10 years of experience in nonprofit development, and a proven record of leading a fundraising program and team.
  • Proven track record of cultivating and securing $1M+ gifts
  • Excellent writing and communications skills, including a persuasive presentation style.
  • Entrepreneurial and self-motivated: able to identify challenges and remove obstacles to success.
  • Comfortable with new technologies and engagement with multiple audiences, international organizations, and donors.
  • Highly collaborative with the ability to oversee a team working remotely.
  • Initiative, creativity and flexibility to undertake new assignments and identify new opportunities in a rapidly evolving space.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is a plus, but not required.

Salary range is $100,000-$120,000, dependent on experience and track record. Benefits include health and dental insurance, 100% employer-sponsored vision insurance, matching IRA retirement plan, and flexible paid time off.
