The World Economic Forum LLC is committed to improving the state of the world by engaging industry, government and civil society leaders in partnerships to shape global, regional and industry agendas.

Based in New York and San Francisco, the World Economic Forum LLC is impartial and not tied to any political, partisan or national interests. It is the North American subsidiary of the World Economic Forum, the International Organization for Public-Private Cooperation, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, under the supervision of the Swiss Federal Government.

The North America team serves as the primary interface between the World Economic Forum and policy-makers in Canada and the United States. Given the pivotal function of public officials in enacting legislation and thereby shaping the future, hundreds of policy-makers in North America rely on the Forum’s high-level network and cutting-edge research for practical policy solutions.

The Community Lead will be responsible for leading day-to-day outreach to a significant community of public officials in the United States, which involves interaction with principals and their staff in executive and legislative bodies. Capture and relay the interests and concerns of this community to the colleagues inside the Forum and thereby enable pragmatic policy solutions to take shape in a range of domains.   

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Cultivate and build relationships with city, state and federal authorities in the US
  • Assist the above in their long-term engagement with the Forum, including preparing and managing their participation in Forum events
  • Serve as a source of knowledge and strategy to other Forum teams seeking to engage US public officials in their work
  • Conduct outreach with Forum constituents in the US, for example academic, civil society or other stakeholders
  • Carry out various administrative duties related to this externally-facing role
  • Support the wide-ranging work of the North America team, as directed

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in public policy, public administration, international relations or other relevant field
  • 5-7 years’ work experience in public policy, ideally at the intersection of government, business and civil society; additional experience in a think-tank or events-related field would be a plus
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills in English; intermediate to fluent knowledge of French would be a strong advantage
  • Flexible and fast learner who thrives in a work environment as unpredictable as it is exciting; fully at ease holding a substantive conversation with a senator and at the next moment dealing with an urgent logistics issue
  • Excellent organizational skills; able to juggle multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously and derive energy from high-pressure work settings
  • Comfortable with use of a range of technology tools to enhance productivity and complement in-person meetings
  • Proven experience of thriving in multicultural, highly collaborative and flexible work environments
  • High level of emotional intelligence, able to work independently with little to no administrative support
  • The successful candidate will be comfortable stepping forward into the spotlight while recognizing that most of the work in this position happens behind the scenes.
