The Vice President, EMEA Government Affairs will represent the Motion Picture Association in diverse policy matters in the region comprising Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The broad objectives of this work will be to support MPA members by promoting actions and policies that respect and sustain creativity and contribute to the success of the audiovisual sector.
ROLE DESCRIPTION & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Analyze political, policy, technological, business and enforcement landscapes. Collaborate with MPA’s global leadership and member studio representatives to design and recommend strategies to accomplish MPA and studio policy objectives, including the promotion of supportive copyright, market access, and regulatory policies across all media.
The VP EMEA Government Affairs will be directly active in policy at the EU level, as well as national and international levels. He or she will lead a team of government affairs professionals working to shape and advise on:
The VP EMEA Government Affairs will represent the MPA as a partner in the broader EU and EMEA policy community, cultivating diverse relationships in and beyond the creative sector to inform development of policy strategies and aid in their execution. Within the MPA and the wider organizations of which it is a part, the VP EMEA Government Affairs will be both a leader and a listener, developing and refining the policy consensus among the MPA members and across relevant sector(s), while aligning with wider global priorities. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to work in coalitions.
Lead and coordinate a team of several government affairs professionals as well as outside consultants, and other independent contractors, chairing team meetings and designing policy advocacy plans and strategies. Contribute to staff results and development by communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, and assessing job results; coaching, counseling, and supporting employees. Ensure MPA values are represented and advocated. Maintain continuity of contact with members and colleagues by documenting and communicating actions, highlighting issues and contributing to broader global policy discussions. Work extensively with outside consultants, within budgetary constraints. Responsibility for personnel, budgetary, and administrative matters, as assigned.
Communications and Teamwork:
Maintain regular and effective contact with, and synthesize and communicate complex information succinctly and clearly to, multiple stakeholders, particularly local and global studio representatives and key allies. Act as a convener, coordinator, and policy consensus-builder for the member company EMEA representatives. Also, as required, liaise with MPA/A teams in the US and elsewhere in the world.
The successful candidate will possess intelligence, education, leadership, and extensive experience dealing with the EU and its Member States on relevant public policy matters, including the following specific qualifications and skills:
Based in Brussels. Willing to travel frequently within the region.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS and COMPENSATION:
This position reports directly to the President and Managing Director, MPA EMEA. Salary will be dependent on qualifications.
