• A current staff member who holds a fixed-term, permanent or continuing appointment may apply for temporary positions no more than one level above his or her current grade. However, a current staff member who holds an appointment at the G-6 or G-7 level may also apply to temporary positions in the Professional category up to and including the P-3 level, subject to meeting all eligibility and other requirements for the position. A staff member holding a temporary appointment shall be regarded as an external candidate when applying for other positions, and may apply for other temporary positions at any level, subject to section 5.7 below and staff rule 4.16 (b) (ii). Therefore, a staff member holding a temporary appointment in the General Service or related categories may only apply to positions within those categories. Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located primarily in the News Section II in the News and Content Branch, News and Media Division of the Department of Public Information (DPI). The Section produces daily news and feature stories, magazine programmes, multi-media pieces and special series for a digital news platform, incorporating live and recorded audio and video, as well as social media content covering the news, events and activities of the entire UN system. It serves as the news agency of the UN system worldwide chronicling important speeches, statements and resolutions. The section is responsible for key messaging on the Organization’s priorities. The Section delivers content in 5 languages (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Portuguese and Kiswahili), and works closely with the other News Section I (English, French and Spanish), creating content for the online UN News portal and on the respective news-based social media platforms.
The incumbent reports to the Chief Editor, Dailies, News Section, and plays the key role of coordinating the daily news agenda for all of UN News.

Keeps abreast of latest developments in multimedia production, technological innovations and marketing techniques in the news and social media industries and ensures the successful integration of such tools in all platforms.
Evaluates results and impact of communications activities; reports on developments, trends and attitudes regarding the UN.
Organizes programme reviews of content and impact analysis.
Represents the institution in meetings and conferences planning and implementing promotional efforts including media coverage through effective liaison with media contacts and broadcasting organizations on major issues and events concerning the organization.
Builds information networks; plans and oversees maintenance of publicly accessible information materials on the United Nations; plans and develops outreach activities.

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area. Experience writing, producing audio-visual content and writing text-based news stories is required. Hands-on practical experience in content management posting or digital publishing is required. Experience working in a daily digital news environment required. Experience with social media and multimedia content in a news environment required. Experience initiating, leading and coordinating news and multimedia production is required. Experience providing editorial guidance to a team and editing others' writing desirable. Experience working in an international media environment is desirable.
Fluency in one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat, English or French, is required; knowledge of the other is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
