Position description

This position is part of an institutional support contract providing support to USAID's Bureau for Policy, Planning and Learning. Established in 2010, the Bureau for Policy, Planning and Learning (PPL) is responsible for leading USAID’s policy planning efforts, shaping overall strategic and program planning, ensuring the Agency’s evolution as a learning and evaluation organization, and overseeing donor engagement while guiding USAID as the premier development agency.   The Office of the Assistant to the Administrator (AA/PPL) is comprised of:  the Assistant to the Administrator (AA),  Senior Deputy Assistant Administrator, Deputy Assistant Administrator(s), Chief Strategy Officer, USAID Forward Coordinator, and the PPL Communications team.

The Program Assistant will provide a range of administrative and technical support to AA/PPL senior staff in order to facilitate the effective achievement of programmatic and management goals. With guidance from relevant senior staff, the Program Assistant will provide technical and administrative assistance, research, analysis and operational/logistical support to AA/PPL.


  • Research, analysis and writing of short reports on topics relating to existing or planned programs for AA/PPL principals.
  • Perform outreach and communication with internal and external stakeholders both orally and in writing.
  • Manage AA/PPL principals’ calendars and provide logistical support for meetings and events.
  • Draft correspondence and outreach materials with guidance from appropriate staff.
  • Manage processing, and clearing of documents within AA/PPL; coordinate with other bureaus and the Executive Secretariat as necessary.
  • Perform note taking, drafting and circulation of meeting minutes.
  • Facilitate travel arrangements, authorizations and vouchers.
  • Perform filing and archiving of key documents.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor degree in international development, international relations or similar field.
  • Two years of experience (work or volunteer) doing similar work.
  • Experience with USAID preferred.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance. To obtain a clearance from the US Government you must be a US citizen.
