Position description

Pencils of Promise (“PoP”) is seeking someone with the experience and drive to help us measure the impact of our school builds and educational programs. As the Guatemala Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Manager you will be posted in Guatemala for a minimum of one year to support quantitative and qualitative M&E protocol, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of data collection, processes and training local staff. This position reports to the Head of Learning & Evaluation, located in New York. 

Summary of responsibilities

  • Ensure all M&E data is collected and inputted correctly and on time
  • Oversee error-free inputting of all data
  • Resolve ad hoc issues with data collection processes 
  • Strictly adhere to NY Impact metric collection timelines
  • Manage in-country M&E team 
  • Train local staff to collect quantitative data and conduct qualitative interviews and surveys: Focus on making M&E a sustainable program that requires minimal oversight
  • Oversee accuracy and timeliness of all M&E team members’ work 
  • Provide professional and personal development to M&E team and work to increase M&E knowledge with the full team
  • Manage Guatemala Salesforce M&E database
  • Ensure data is entered into Salesforce error free and on time
  • Work with the NY Impact team to ensure Salesforce aligns with Guatemala needs
  • With oversight from NY Impact team to support the design of tools to gather quantitative and qualitative metrics from a variety of beneficiaries 
  • Create robust M&E protocol for programs and projects
  • Create and execute a process for measuring the need in PoP communities and the qualitative impact of all PoP interventions
  • Communicate insights and data to Head of Learning & Evaluation (based in NYC)
  • Share data and identify key insights with NY headquarters
  • Discuss strategic implications of quantitative and qualitative data results
  • Collaborate with all departments in Guatemala
  • Share data and insights with Construction, Administration and Programs Managers
  • Develop tools that adhere to all department needs, as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in relevant field (e.g. Statistics, Economics, International Relations)
  • At least 1 year of work experience in qualitative and quantitative M&E protocol for non-profits, preferably in the education and/or international development space
  • Fluent in both Spanish and English
  • Strong knowledge of M&E methodologies across international development space
  • Basic understanding of statistics and Excel
  • Experience with Salesforce preferred 
  • Understands and can overcome the barriers of executing M&E in the field
  • Experience training and managing staff
  • Strong written and verbal communicator, including creating presentations which can simplify complicated data sets and pull out key insights
  • Interacts with people of a variety of cultures with ease; able to leverage insights from in-country staff to strengthen own work
  • Experience working and/or living in a foreign context, preferably in the developing world
  • Comfortable working remotely from staff and/or direct supervisor
  • Enjoys working independently and demonstrating initiative
  • Thoughtful and eager to brainstorm improvements for our programs and processes
