Position description

We are seeking a skilled Editor to join a non-profit media research organization in downtown Washington, DC. The Editor will be a key member for the Editing Team responsible for ensuring superior-quality content reaches an online audience. The ideal candidate will be extremely detail-oriented and eager to hold themselves and colleagues accountable to the highest standards for quality and process optimization. If you have an interest in foreign affairs, the Middle East specifically, have experience editing work submitted in English by non-native speakers, and love working in a fast paced and highly collaborative environment, read on.

Editor Responsibilities:

  • Review research produced by national and international office locations.
  • Edit content submitted by researchers to ensure clarity and correct grammar, punctuation, dictation, etc.
  • Edit research to adhere to established style and quality guidelines.
  • Collaborate with other team members to generate, maintain, and communicate a global production calendar.
  • Proactively identify bottlenecks and other red flags for process adjustment.
  • Track, analyze, and report key performance metrics.

Editor Requirements:

  • At least five (5) years of online editing/ writing experience in a professional environment.
  • BA in English, Journalism, or related field.
  • Experience or studies in foreign policy/ international relations is a must, Middle East specifically is highly desired.
  • Familiar with AP Style & AMA Manual of Style.
  • Demonstrated experience accurately editing into native-speaker-level English reports authored in English by researchers with varying levels of command of the language.
  • Able to collaborate with colleagues spanning the globe and be able to show flexibility in working hours.
  • Must be able to multi-task several projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Must be highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
