Position description

We are currently seeking a nonprofit finance professional to help support the needs of a rapidly growing start-up think-tank. The candidate will independently run all aspects of the organization’s financial administration and closely contribute to the organization’s growth and strategy.

A successful candidate will have strong and proven technical accounting expertise, as well as strong organizational and communication skills to work with a fast-paced young office. The candidate will work closely with senior management to develop the long-term financial strategy of the company, as well as with external clients to manage government and non-profit grants, contracts, and contributions.

Job Responsibilities:


  • Prepare payroll and oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate standards and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenses
  • Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable and all domestic and international payments, wires, and ACH transactions
  • Manage organizational cash flow forecasting in partnership with CEO and COO
  • Interface with outside audit firms, banks, business insurance agents, credit card companies, etc. on C4ADS’ behalf
  • Provide oversight on credit card reconciliation, employee expense reports, and cash control
  • Consistently analyze financial data and present reports in an accurate and timely manner
  • Clearly communicate monthly, quarterly and annual financial statement
  • Monitor progress, prepare financial outlooks, and financial forecasts and keep CEO and COO abreast of any changes
  • Prepare project budgets and financial reports for donors, clients and projects, including donor reports and proposals
  • Coordinate all audit activity and prepare detailed audit schedules
  • Ensure all compliance practices are implemented based on up to date regulations
  • Prepare draft tax reporting (IRS 990) and manage other local and state regulatory reporting requirements


  • Manage the annual budget process, in coordination with management and team leads across the organization
  • Develop and improve financial administration process, reporting, and structure across the organization
  • Provide strategic guidance regarding the related policies, processes and systems necessary to manage the organization’s financial and administrative operation
  • Maintain and improve finance manuals and other working documents as needed to ensure staff adhere to recommended practices and procedures
  • Manage the development and implementation of trainings for staff on accounting concepts and best practices in nonprofit financial management, including the use of budgets and forecasts
  • Utilize current transactional and financial systems and make recommendations for ongoing improvements in functionality as required
  • Support strategic and annual planning and participate in a wide variety of special projects, reports and initiatives as required


Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance/nonprofit administration required; Master’s Degree in accounting/finance/nonprofit administration preferred
  • Certified Professional Accountant designation or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in non-profit organizations, including budget management and financial reporting as well as oversight of annual audit and federal Form 990 preparation
  • Knowledge of financial and accounting best practices, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Proven project management and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including communication (both verbal and written)
  • Proficiency with accounting software, reporting tools (Deltek preferred), and Excel
  • Ability to simplify and explain complex financial concepts
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving mindset
  • Willingness to work collaboratively across departments and consider new ideas
  • Experience managing accounting records for federal grants/contracts and familiarity with federal procurement guidelines and regulations such as OMB Circulars preferred
