Position description

The Associate Director is responsible for managing the daily operations of front desk services and ISSS communications and programs for students and scholars to ensure that the needs of students, scholars, faculty, funding sponsors and the university community are met, while complying with the U.S. Government rules and regulations affecting F1 students and J1 exchange visitors.  The Associate Director prepares mandated reports and documentation to the government for exchange visitors and students in F and J visa categories. The Associate Director is the primary person to research, develop and implement intercultural programs for the university community, including for students, scholars, their dependents and the university offices. This position is the primary liaison with international parents, funding sources, the new Accelerator program and various university offices for matters affecting the international student enrollments and retention.     Educational Requirements:Master's degree in Cross Cultural Communication, International Training and Education, Counseling, Education or related fields.   Minimum Requirements:

  • U.S. citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident Status (to comply with the Department of State and Department of Homeland requirement for issuing immigration documents)
  • At least 6 years of progressive advising, intercultural communication, programming and supervisory experience
  • Cross cultural competency and international living/learning experience
  • Working knowledge of (F-1) student and (J-1) exchange visitor’ status regulations and procedures
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service, diplomatic and public relations skills
  • Evidence of efficient and effective problem-solving and program management skills
  • Ability to work independently, and background in program management
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement educational programs in a diverse cultural environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills   

Preferred Requirements:

  • Web content management and social media or related experience     
  • Foreign language skills
  • Experience with report writing tools     

Additional Information:Some weekend and evening hours may be required.
