The Justice in Mexico Program coordinates research agendas, projects, and activities with prestigious scholars, government officials, non-governmental and community organizations from both Mexico and the United States with a focus on monitoring and collecting data on rule of law issues; analysis of justice sector reform implementation and performance (including surveys of prosecutors, public defenders, and judges); briefings for policy makers; and trainings for judicial system professionals in Mexico. 

Detailed Description

The Justice in Mexico Program coordinates research agendas, projects, and activities with prestigious scholars, government officials, non-governmental and community organizations from both Mexico and the United States with a focus on monitoring and collecting data on rule of law issues; analysis of justice sector reform implementation and performance (including surveys of prosecutors, public defenders, and judges); briefings for policy makers; and trainings for judicial system professionals in Mexico. The Program Coordinator performs social scientific research and coordination duties related to the program’s on-going research project on rule of law issues in Mexico and the border region. The Program Coordinator is responsible for formal communications with individual and institutional program partners, informational and contact database management, and project reporting and research materials dissemination.

Qualifications

● Master’s degree or equivalent in International Relations, Latin American Studies, Law or related field. 

● 2 years of experience in research and application of issues related to Mexican law, rule of law promotion in Mexico, and the Mexican criminal justice system.

Alternative Qualifications:

In lieu of a Master’s degree and 2 years of experience employer will accept JD degree or equivalent and 2 years of experience in research and application of issues related to Mexican law, rule of law promotion in Mexico, and the Mexican criminal justice system

● Work experience to include:

1. Two years of experience in event planning and coordination, including budgetary oversight.

2. Two years of experience leading a team of full and part-time staff, interns, and volunteers. 

3. Research and analysis, public speaking, media commentary and lecturing regarding Mexican politics, society, and rule of law.

4. Research and analysis of Mexican law, comparative law, and international rules of law. 

5. Research and analysis of the Mexican criminal justice system, policing, police reform efforts, judicial reform efforts, and human rights law in Mexico.

Any and all experience can be gained concurrently.

● Position requires the ability to obtain a valid driver’s license and ability to drive a motor vehicle in California and Mexico. 

● Position requires 30% international and 10% domestic travel. Travel expenses paid by employer.

● Position requires bilingual fluency (verbal and written) in professional Spanish and English.

Full-time position (40 hrs/wk).
