Position description

Regions Refocus, an initiative working on progressive and feminist policy at the regional level, is seeking a full-time Program and Communications Assistant, to start in autumn 2017 at our New York office. The position includes the following responsibilities:

Communications – 40%

  • Coordinate process of transitioning to new website: liaise with external design team; handle deadlines and submission of materials
  • Contribute creative ideas to new incarnation of RR communications strategy, including new website; listserv messaging, social media
  • Manage postings on listserv and social media, in English and ideally Spanish or French
  • Design and implement communications strategy for each thematic area/activity of RR’s upcoming work
  • Disseminate and amplify heterodox and feminist policy paper series, forthcoming November 2017

Program – 60% 

  • Support each of Regions Refocus’s upcoming workshops and policy initiatives through coordinating:
  • Background documents: research and collation of relevant resources including annotated bibliographies and participant bios, etc; soliciting resources from participants and managing shared online folder;
  • Materials: creating and compiling workshop documents (participant folders, nametags, tablecards, etc.) and liasing with printer;
  • Logistics: managing communications with participants; tracking flights, airport transfers, hotel room bookings, per diems, vendors
  • Assist in management of upcoming Africa policy archive project, including by monitoring the inflow of proposals and lists of potential researchers, advisers, etc.
  • Support events and meetings that RR co-organizes in New York, including around the UN: send invitations, monitor RSVPs, make phone calls to follow-up; attend occasional meetings of civil society active around the UN; take notes and provide other administrative support (with microphones, videoconferencing, etc. where applicable)
  • Translate workshop documentation, RR analysis, brief video teach-ins into Spanish/French
  • Manage Regions Refocus global contacts database, library of resources, archive of policy materials
  • Other administrative and logistics support as required

Qualifications

  • BA in relevant field (international relations, political science, economics, women’s studies, etc.)
  • At least 1-2 years’ experience working in communications and/or program work at a non-profit; international experience preferred, especially global South
  • Flexibility and ability to contribute a range of ideas and tasks to a small, open-minded team
  • Attention to detail and breadth of understanding, as you’ll be balancing simultaneous projects with a range of thematic focus areas and regions
  • Dedication and ability to learn quickly and adapt to shifting circumstances
  • Friendly demeanor and high degree of comfort in progressive, multicultural, international settings
  • Commitment to the mission of Regions Refocus
