Position description

The Business Intelligence Group of the General Motors Legal and Public Policy Department seeks a China-focused research analyst with an advanced understanding of Chinese politics and political economy and how these shape the business climate for multinational firms in the country. In this role, you will conduct in-depth research in English and Mandarin Chinese and produce written analytic products on politics and macroeconomics. Research topics will vary, but will include Chinese trade, foreign policy, and regulations, as applicable to the automotive and technology industries.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Produce thorough analysis that reflects a nuanced understanding of Chinese political and economic policymaking
  • Research and monitor issues and trends related to an evolving automotive industry, both proactively and as directed
  • Produce accurate, concise, and timely reports, memos, and briefing documents to support the group, department, and company
  • Manage inflows and outflows of data and report requests in coordination with other Business Intelligence Group members
  • Incorporate data visualization into product

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations, Economics, Political Science, International Business or related disciplines; Master’s Degree preferred
  • 5+ years of related experience
  • Advanced Mandarin Chinese language skills
  • High level of interpersonal organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently, with minimal supervision, as well as in a team environment
  • Ability to deal with a high level of ambiguity
  • Demonstrated multitasking and time management skills
  • Clear reputation for ethical conduct, integrity, and confidentiality
  • Critical thinking and creative problem-solving abilities
  • In-depth research skills, source knowledge, and intellectual curiosity
  • Professional experience in China
