Position description

In a world dominated by GDP and quarterly earnings, critical aspects of social progress are left under-prioritized, underfunded and marginalized. The Social Progress Imperative is changing this paradox by redefining what is success and putting things that matter to real people’s lives at the top of the agenda – are they safe, healthy and free. Our annual Social Progress Index is a global benchmarking of countries’ social performance to provide a more complete view on how a society is truly developing. But the Index is not just a research and measurement tool; it is also a catalyst for action. The Index has been adopted by governments, businesses and communities around the world to identify their greatest social challenges and prioritize and accelerate policies, actions and investments to improve the lives of everyday people.

The Social Progress Imperative seeks a creative, entrepreneurial, outcome-driven student or recent university graduate with a desire to develop greater skills in marketing and communications. The Communications Specialist will be responsible for supporting two supervisors during the internship with these and other tasks during an internship running May—August 2017 (option for full or part-time):

·       Web and social media publishing

·       Cataloging photos and videos

·       Laying out publications and creating Power Point presentations

·       Maintaining the relationship management system and other databases

·       Monitoring media

·       Proofreading

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have studied 1-3 years of Graphic Design, Communications or Marketing in an accredited university. Advanced interpersonal communication and collaboration skills as well as stellar negotiation and organization talents are required as well.

The Communications Specialist also will be expected to demonstrate practical skills, such as data entry, copy-editing and graphic design/layout and blogging.
