Position description

The Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi), an independent, non-profit think tank, seeks a part-time research assistant (~8-16 hours) to join our team in Berlin.

The successful candidate will support our research, dialogue, and consulting activities with a particular focus on advancing our work on authoritarian-illiberal challenges to democracy, the changing global order as well as data and technology politics.

This is a position particularly suited for students currently enrolled in a program in the Berlin area who can commit to working with us for at least a full year. If you already have a graduate degree and are not currently enrolled in a degree program, you are not eligible to apply for this position.

What we are looking for:

  • An entrepreneurial spirit and an interest in and familiarity with GPPi’s main issue areas and fields of work;
  • An outstanding academic background (currently enrolled in a BA or graduate program, or a completed BA degree) in a relevant field such as law, public policy or political science/international relations;
  • An interest in working on authoritarian-illiberal challenges to democracy, the changing global order, and/or data and technology politics;
  • Excellent research skills and a passion to develop ideas and arguments;
  • Attention to detail as well as excellent time management and communications skills;
  • Excellent English-language skills in both writing and speaking (knowledge of German and other European/world languages will be considered a plus);
  • The ability to work independently within a team context.

What we offer:

  • A dynamic work environment in the center of Germany’s capital;
  • An international team working in a strong global network;
  • An attractive platform for self-driven professional development in the think tank world.

Our primary working language is English. Non-EU citizens can apply for this position but need to be in possession of a valid visa that allows them to work off campus.

GPPi is an equal opportunity employer.

Starting date:

To be determined, preferably in February 2018 but no later than March 15, 2018. Please indicate your availability.
