Church World Service (CWS) seeks a Regional Coordinator for the South American Gran Chaco region to lead it in developing and implementing innovative development, humanitarian and advocacy programming in the region. The Regional Representative develops new and nurtures existing CWS partnerships, and identifies opportunities for CWS program growth and expansion in the region. This position is based in the CWS Buenos Aires, Argentina office, with frequent travel throughout the region.
In Latin America and the Caribbean region, CWS provides funding, technical assistance and advocacy support to local efforts to eradicate hunger and poverty and promote peace and justice in Haiti, Central America and the Gran Chaco region of South America (Argentina, Paraguay and Bolivia). In the Gran Chaco region, CWS partners with ecumenical, interfaith and secular civil society organizations to carry out its mission. CWS partners have a demonstrated commitment to human rights, sustainable development and democracy. Maintaining mutually challenging, respectful, caring and transformative relationships with CWS local implementing partners is central to CWS working methodology and principles.
To promote inclusive and just development in the South American Gran Chaco region, CWS works with civil society partners in the areas of: indigenous peoples´ rights, right to land, food security and water; participatory community development and women and youth empowerment. Through Comunidades en Accion Gran Chaco Sudamericano CWS also supports grassroots efforts in urban centers. When invited, CWS accompanies state-community partnerships and collaboration that seek to address issues prioritized by the urban and rural poor and other marginalized groups.
The incumbent will serve as the full-time representative of CWS in the trinational Gran Chaco region, supporting partners implementing CWS-funded programs, working with current and potential donors to expand the CWS funding based, and interpreting CWS programs in the Gran Chaco to a variety of audiences and stakeholders.
The Regional Representative will be someone able to work remotely with a group of partner organizations and NGO colleagues based in the Gran Chaco, someone passionate about social change who understands the value and strategic function of fundraising in creating that change, an excellent listener and avid learner and also someone who – when appropriate – can cast a vision and lead a team to fulfill the vision. The Regional Coordinator will be someone who enjoys working in partnership, valuing current partners´ existing strengths, knowledge and capacity, understanding the value of organizational capacity development and self-assessment and someone who can stand up for CWS and negotiate difficult situations and conflicts in a respectful manner.
