As Senior Manager in Technical Capacity building you will be responsible for strategic oversight and support in setting vision for the movement-wide humanitarian technical capacity building portfolio, setting budgets and suggest growth directions. You will represent the Humanitarian Capacity Building (HCB) Group, playing a lead role in the implementation and operationalisation of the global Humanitarian Curriculum. In addition you will:

  • Oversee the humanitarian technical capacity building partners
  • Line manage 4-5 programme managers and officers, including Performance Management, setting and oversight of work and Learning & Development objectives
  • Be accountable for the Education in EmergenciesChild Protection in Emergencies and Public Health capacity building programmes, including management of DfID relationship on Health & Nutrition
  • Represent the HCB Management Team, including being the focal point for HR and feeding into team vision, wider professionalism and quality work.

To be successful you will have a relevant academic qualification in the field of international development, technical social/political science, or other relevant subject area. You will have a strategic mind-set and approach with experience of working at senior levels within an organisation. Problem solving, negotiation and contracting skills are essential as is a strong understanding of adult learning and work-place learning methodology. In addition you will have:

  • Experience in developing new capacity building programmes, including overseeing writing of content
  • Excellent programme management and organisational skills gained through managing complex cross-organisational projects
  • A good understanding of monitoring and evaluating approaches and methodologies
  • A good understanding of rights and development issues, international relations, emergency response and the international humanitarian system
  • The ability to travel internationally, occasionally at short notice and to remote and insecure locations (up to 30% of the work time annually)
