Position description

EUROCITIES, the network of major European cities, is recruiting a policy coordinator. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the policy director at the EUROCITIES Brussels office. He/she would ideally start in February 2018.

Responsibilities

The policy advisor will be responsible for supporting EUROCITIES activities related to economic development, with a specific focus on long-term investments in cities, SMEs and start-ups, local innovation ecosystems, economic diversification and transition, and international trade. Other responsibilities include:

  • coordinating, supporting and providing content-related inputs to the EUROCITIES economic development forum, including preparing policy papers and policy statements;
  • supporting the working groups related to the economic development forum;
  • preparing policy briefings for EUROCITIES members on European opportunities, policy trends and projects for economic development;
  • establishing effective working relationships with the European Institutions and other relevant stakeholders in the field of urban economic development with the view of engaging and influencing the European policy process;
  • preparing and animating mutual learning events such as study visits, peer-reviews, focus groups;
  • cooperating with other EUROCITIES Forum and projects in cross-cutting areas, such as jobs and skills, digital transition, public procurement, etc.

Qualifications

  • Excellent planning, organisation and coordination skills;
  • Problem-solving attitude;
  • Flexibility to deal with multiple and changing priorities;
  • Good negotiating and influencing skills;
  • Excellent political judgement for doing advocacy and lobby work;
  • Excellent research and analytical skills, including the ability to collect, analyse and present information in a clear and concise way;
  • Initiative and self-motivation;
  • Project development and management skills;
  • Capacity to work independently as well as part of a team;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Excellent English, other languages an asset.

Knowledge

  • Deep understanding of EU policies and governance related to local economic development;
  • Good understanding of long-term investments, local innovation ecosystems, start-ups, economic transition and diversification;
  • Good understanding of evidence-based policy-making;
  • Good understanding of urban policies.

Experience

  • Degree in economic development, urban development, or other related fields;
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant working experience;
  • Experience of policy-oriented research;
  • Experience in coordinating working groups;
  • Experience in advocacy, lobby and influencing EU institutions and other relevant stakeholders;
  • Experience in organising events;
  • Experience of working with cities an asset, either in a city administration or city network.

We offer

  • A one-year contract under Belgian legislation, starting as soon as possible, ideally beginning of February 2018
  • Salary range between €3,200  to €3,700 gross per month, according to experience
