Position description

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a unique global network of policy research centers in Russia, China, Europe, the Middle East, India, and the United States, is seeking a dynamic Media and Outreach Director to work with its Washington, DC-based communications team to help develop a strategy for and manage the day-to-day work flow on media relations, social media, government affairs, events, and email marketing. 

The Media and Outreach Director works closely with the Vice President for Communications and Strategy and Carnegie's policy experts on media and outreach strategy and serves as a resource for communications staff in Carnegie's global offices to ensure coordinated campaigns and consistent global content standards. Located in Dupont Circle, we offer an outstanding benefits package. At least five years of experience in media relations required. Management experience is preferred. In-depth understanding of, and interest in, foreign policy is essential. Outstanding writing and editing abilities required. Seeking an individual with strong interpersonal skills who will thrive in a team environment.

The ideal candidate has contacts in both traditional and social media, extensive experience in media relations including editing and pitching opinion pieces, writing press releases and story pitches, planning and managing media events and driving policy driven social media campaigns using a range of platforms.  Experience working on Capitol Hill in international affairs is strongly preferred.
