Position description

The policy advisor/project coordinator will be responsible for supporting EUROCITIES activities in the fields of mobility, energy and climate, by contributing to the association’s networking, advocacy and project activities related to these policy fields.

Other responsibilities:

  • maintain an up-to-date overview of policy developments in the specified areas and contribute with, expertise and strategic insights to the policy work of EUROCITIES;
  • maintain contacts with the EU institutions, with member cities, and with other stakeholders;
  • coordinate the preparation of relevant policy statements;
  • contribute to EUROCITIES’ advocacy work in the fields of mobility, energy and climate;
  • coordinate the implementation of EU financed projects in the field of mobility;
  • ensure that any potential synergies with other policy areas, projects and communications activities of EUROCITIES are developed through coordination with relevant colleagues;
  • ensure effective communication to members and more widely through the various channels available;
  • support EUROCITIES general policy and project work, as well as other activities in line with the overall objectives.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree or equivalent in European affairs on urban studies, preferably with a specialisation in sustainable urban development or similar;
  • 3-5 years of experience in policy advocacy at EU level and EU project implementation;
  • A dynamic team player who also takes full responsibility for delivering results on own work;
  • Agile in a changing environment with the ability to juggle competing deadlines;
  • A self-starter, driven by the motivation to deliver outcomes for cities and citizens.

Knowledge

  • Thorough understanding of the EU institutions, decision making processes and funding instruments;
  • Excellent knowledge of EU policies and programmes related to mobility as well as climate and energy;
  • Knowledge of indicators an asset, notably in the area of mobility;
  • Excellent knowledge of urban policies and cities in general, including the role of cities in the EU.

Experience and skills

  • A strong track record of securing successful outcomes on advocacy work;
  • At least 2-3 year of experience in EU project management;
  • Experience of working with cities an asset, either in a city administration or through a network;
  • Strong organisation and coordination skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills;
  • Good interpersonal skills for an international environment;
  • Perfect English, other languages an asset.

We offer

  • A one-year contract under Belgian legislation, starting as soon as possible, ideally beginning of March 2018
  • Salary range between €3.300  to €3.600 gross per month, according to experience
