Secretariat staff members selected for a position in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General (EOSG) will retain their current contractual status and they will not retain their right of return to their current post. Those with current appointments limited to a specific Department, Office or Mission and will be given similar appointments limited to service in the EOSG. Likewise, external candidates who are selected will be given appointments limited to service in the EOSG. Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General (EOSG). The Team Leader reports to the Director of the Strategic Planning and Monitoring Unit (SPMU), who reports to the Assistant Secretary-General for Strategic Coordination.
Within delegated authority, the Team Leader of the Executive Committee Secretariat will be responsible for the following duties:
• Supports the Executive Committee Secretary in ensuring high-quality forward planning, strategic agenda-setting, preparation of cross-pillar background materials, decision follow-up and other support to the Executive Committee and the Deputy Committee;
• Manages the Executive Committee Secretariat by overseeing and guiding staff activities, including meeting logistics and document preparation (including analytical meeting reports, talking points and implementation tracking), to ensure consistent high-quality secretariat support is provided to the Executive Committee and Deputies Committee;
• Liaises with and maintains excellent working relationship with relevant UN entities and Executive Committee focal points, as well as the EOSG Political, Peacekeeping, Humanitarian and Human Rights Unit; the Rule of Law Unit; and the Sustainable Development Unit in preparation for and in follow-up to Executive Committee meetings;
• Provides advice on actions to take on Executive Committee related matters to the Director of the Strategic Planning and Monitoring Unit and the Assistant Secretary-General for Strategic Coordination;
• Oversees the planning and follow up to other EOSG-led decision making fora (besides the Executive Committee), including retreats and workshops;
• Supports the SPMU, as needed, in developing priority setting, forward planning, and strategic analysis;
• Performs other duties as requested by the Director of the Strategic Planning and Monitoring Unit and the Assistant Secretary-General for Strategic Coordination.

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in political science, international relations, international economics, law, public administration or other related area. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in political science, international relations, law, development management, or related area is required. Experience in strategic and/or forward planning of committee agendas and work plans is required. Experience in providing substantive and operational support to a high-level committee secretariat is required. Supervisory experience is required. Experience working with the UN system and UN intergovernmental mechanisms is desirable. Experience in leading support to a committee or similar entity is desirable.
English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
