The United Nations Development Programme works in nearly 170 countries to eradicate poverty and reduce inequality. With annual budget of US$5 billion, it is the largest development services provider in the UN system. UNDP works with a wide range of partners, including governments, multilateral institutions such as the international financial institutions, the European Commission, civil society, the private sector, foundations, academia and media.
The intern will be working in the Strategy and Innovation Unit (SIU) located within the Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy. The Unit constitutes the ‘nerve centre’ responsible for providing forward-looking strategic analysis and supporting the organization in cultivating, building and nurturing partnerships and innovative resource mobilization opportunities to support the Sustainable Development Goals.
2018 is a critical year for the #newUNDP and implementing UNDP’s new Strategic Plan to work towards the 2030 Agenda. This massive undertaking requires new ways of working, partnering, financing and reporting. SIU will lead the organization’s effort to mobilize resources from partnering with the private sector using existing and innovative financing mechanisms. The intern will work in a team under the supervision of the Director of the Unit.
Duties and Responsibilities
Research, map, compile and organize potential partnership opportunities with the private sector to develop market-based solutions to development in key industries
Reach out, arrange and support engagements with target private sector actors (companies and foundations) to mobilize financial and in-kind resources for development projects
Support the preparation of a pipeline of bankable project ideas and leverage innovative technologies and solutions for development
Provide ad hoc support on relevant assignments as required
Understanding of international economic and financial issues, trends and processes
Strong research skills, writing, editing, verbal presentation
Strong analytical, coordination and organizational skills
Ability to work and interact with individuals in a multicultural environment, independently and deliver with tight deadlines
Self-motivated with ability to multitask multiple assignments and pay attention to details
Required Skills and Experience
Currently enrolled in a Master’s / postgraduate university in MBA, economics, marketing, international relations or related field
Knowledge and experience in international development and finance, business strategy development, public-private partnership and related areas
Experience in research, analyzing and synthesizing a large amount of data and produce knowledge products
Relevant experience in fund raising, private sector partnership and innovation is desirable
Business background is desirable
Proficiency in written and spoken English.

UNDP accepts no responsibility for the medical and life insurance of the intern or costs arising from accidents and illness incurred during an internship.
The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNDP, but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship.

Letter of endorsement from a senior faculty member who has directly supervised the student in the recent past and who is fully acquainted with the student's performance

In addition, selected candidate will need to:
Have a valid visa to work in the US
Provide proof of medical and life insurance
Provide a Medical Certificate of Good Health from a recognized physician
