Department

Our dynamic Development Department is responsible for raising over $350 million annually in funds to meet the financial needs of our organization which allows MSF to carry out its mission effectively and efficiently.

The Marketing Team is responsible for executing integrated marketing efforts, including prospect, renewal and cultivation campaigns and activities via all communication channels to maximize the revenue and increase awareness of MSF’s activities and concerns, expertise and values.

Project

As the Community Development & Events Associate, you will be part of a dynamic, collaborative, and fast-paced fundraising events team at Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF). Our team works with a variety of people and supporter events across the country. We help individuals and organizations who want to support us through their fundraising efforts, be that a bake sale or a formal gala.

We create and partner with 3rd party events to further the cause of MSF, from marathons to speed video gaming. We organize speaking tours, bringing the work of MSF to those who support it across the country. We manage the university student chapter network, expanding the reach of the work of MSF to the next generation of supporters.

As Community Development & Events Associate, you will help us take our community engagement and fundraising to the next level.

 On any given day, you might be:

  • Researching venues and designing the logistics for our aid worker speaking tour program.
  • Speaking to student chapters to get them started, help structure their semesters, or support their events.
  • Creating a new system to better track and report on the activities and development of the student chapter program
  • Troubleshooting the last-minute setup details of an event while simultaneously managing event volunteers while simultaneously on the phone coordinating a speaker for a different event.

Tasks

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

On the Road nationwide aid worker speaker tour program:

  • Analyze data and develop strategy and systems for the On the Road aid worker speaker tour program.
  • Identify tour routes for On the Road and organize all aspects including venues/catering/invitations/travel/staffing etc.
  • Coordinate with other MSF teams and departments to identify areas for collaboration.

University student chapter program: 

  • Develop a strategic chapter expansion plan and recruit new student chapters
  • Support current student chapters, including sending materials, supporting events, assisting in semester planning, etc.
  • Develop and update relevant web pages.
  • Produce accurate, detailed, and actionable reporting and insights.

Other:

  • Work with Fundraising Manager to identify and represent event needs to improve departmental systems that track current events, donor information and history and to maintain overall quality control.
  • Conduct data entry, reviews, and analysis of events and donor information.
  • Contribute to documenting and updating the business policies and procedures followed by the team.

                              I.           Extent of Public Contact

  • Regularly represent MSF to donors and other members of the public.
  • Interact with staff and field volunteers to stay abreast of MSF issues, to conduct research, and to develop proposals and reports.

                           II.           Travel

  • Must be able to travel extensively as required – approximately 12-16 domestic trips/year (off-site events, industry conferences).

Fixed Term Contract - 12 month contract

Starting salary high 50s to low 60s (commensurate with experience).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Excellent oral and written English language communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Proven ability to plan and implement successful events.
  • Knowledge of international affairs and humanitarian issues.
  • Proven skills in working productively with a variety of constituencies to get results. 
  • Ability to analyze, measure, and improve fundraising and community development campaigns.
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work under pressure and with deadlines.
  • Keen attention to detail with ability to track multiple projects at one time.
  • Excellent judgment and diplomacy.
  • Strong computer literacy, including knowledge of and/or ability to quickly learn a variety of platforms including Office, project management and database systems.
  • Comfortable in an “all hands-on deck” environment, able to operate and collaborate across multiple teams, and thrive in a fast-paced culture.
  • A creative problem solver.
  • Familiarity with and commitment to the work of MSF.
