FUNCTION: Policy Intern

OBJECTIVE: The policy intern at the Washington Regional Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is expected to: provide administrative support to the policy team; attend/report on public events and meetings as requested; and as time allows, perform research and writing on humanitarian and US foreign policy issues of relevance to the ICRC. This is a one year internship in the fast paced Washington office of an international humanitarian organization.
The ICRC: The International Committee of the Red Cross is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance. The ICRC also endeavors to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles.
POLICY TEAM: The Policy Department aims to raise awareness of the ICRC’s relevance, amplify humanitarian policies, share knowledge and create opportunities for collaboration in support of the ICRC’s humanitarian goals. Further, this department provides policy advice to the delegation and reinforces the organization´s humanitarian diplomacy in Washington on key themes and contexts.
Management and Reporting Line. The Policy Intern reports to the Deputy Head of Policy. She/he is expected to collaborate with colleagues on the policy team, and throughout the delegation in order to carry out these and other reasonably related duties.
