This is a senior professional managerial position in which the incumbent reports to the Senior Vice President, Advocacy and Strategy and works closely with the EVP/CEO to develop, maintain and ensure the Institute’s strategic relationships and partnerships with domestic and related international professional organizations in the design and construction industry further the Institute’s mission. These relationships are comprehensive in that they encompass more than one initiative and are ongoing. In many cases, there are financial and other resource obligations. The Senior Director will oversee the International Relations division and represent the Institute by negotiating the affiliation or alliance agreement and managing the ongoing relationship through the fulfillment of partnership agreements involving other staff and AIA members, as appropriate.
Oversee and serve as the initial point of contact within the AIA for industry and international relations topics for AIA officers, presidential appointees, and volunteer members.
Oversee the development of strategies and plans for the industry and international relations.
Develop and lead briefings for leadership and senior staff prior to travel to meetings of organizations within the design and construction industry or visits from delegations from these organizations.
Ensure coordination of visits and communicate with members, presidents and executives of organizations within the design and construction industry.
Coordinates with the executive office to support AIA official delegations for representation at industry events.
Track and reviews incoming correspondence and drafts responses for the officers and the EVP/CEO relative to the AIA’s industry relation activities.
Oversee and work closely with the Director & Manager, International Relations to ensure support and coordination with international alliances &programs.
Respond to information requests from AIA members, AIA components, AIA International Components and the general public on practice activities and industry issues.
As directed from the Senior Vice-President of Advocacy & Relationships, develop and implement an engagement and value strategy related to the AIA’s Design and Health portfolio with design firms.
Provide regular recommendations for change, improvements, etc. (identifying areas for mutual collaboration with other AIA staff).
Serve as the primary contact for the AIA with its domestic and international alliances, working across departments to coordinate fulfillment of partner agreements.
Provide resources and facilitate opportunities, whenever possible, for extending partnerships with domestic and international organizations to the AIA’s local and state components.
Develop and manage budgets related to committee and staff travel and other costs in fulfilling domestic relationships; oversee budget for international division.
