Position description

Our client, a global non-profit research organization in RTP, is seeking to hire a part time International Relations Project Associate to work closely with project managers and coordinators to backstop the field offices providing operational assistance for his/her assigned programs. S/he liaises with the home and field offices, subcontractors, and consultants in order to support timely and high-quality work conducted for programs under implementation. S/he adds value by developing and implementing administrative systems which adhere to the organization and USAID protocols. Additionally, s/he works to promote new business opportunities and research initiatives by pursuing both geographic and technical areas under the organization's strategic vision. This position will be based in the Research Triangle Park, NC and is a three month contract opportunity through the end of September 2018. Cover letter required.


  • Assist project coordinators in reviewing monthly project financial transactions and invoices in addition to contributing to monthly financial review presentations to the management team

  • Facilitate recruitment, fielding, and support of consultants; Collect and process consultant assignment reports, expense reports and invoices for payment

  • Assist in preparing core project documents such as budgets, quarterly financial reports, periodic progress reports, and annual work plans

  • Help maintain tools and templates for tracking project activities

  • Process routine project documents related to travel, consultants, sub-partners, vendors, etc. using approved templates; Maintain project filing systems

  • Assist in monitoring budgets and liaises regarding administrative or operational issues for sub-partners and vendors

  • Participate in project startup and closeout teams, as needed, including coordination of operational requirements such as banking, staffing, office facilities, and developing startup/close out work plans

  • Participate in business and proposal development efforts, including project performance summaries, corporate capability statements, preparing job descriptions, and editing resumes

  • Participate in writing and editing success stories and documents best practices on current programs to promote cross-project learning and knowledge management


Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree, focused on international relations, political science, public administration, or related field and at least 2 years of relevant experience required

  • Required fluency in English; Advanced language skills in Spanish or Arabic preferred

Desired Background/Skills:

  • Proficient administrative support skills and abilities 

  • Work experience in program administration and/or project development preferred

  • Experience backstopping USAID-funded contracts and/or cooperative agreements preferred

  • Excellent organization skills and ability to multi-task

  • Experience and/or interest in governance, workforce development, youth development, or economic growth technical areas

  • Ability to work collaboratively with people with a variety of backgrounds and skill sets

  • Field experience working in developing countries preferred

  • Demonstrated writing skills

  • Ability to manage and support complex and geographically disparate portfolios

  • Ability to independently research upcoming projects and areas, participate in new business development

  • Knowledge and proficiency with MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel

  • Culturally sensitive and respectful
