Description of the Organization
Academic Travel Abroad, Inc. is an educational travel provider for some of this country’s most prestigious organizations. Riding the post-war wave of interest in travel to Europe, ATA launched operations in 1950 by assisting universities and cultural institutions in the creation of group travel programs for their members. Today, ATA is a leader in cultural and educational group travel and serves partners such as The New York Times, Smithsonian Institution, American Institute of Architects, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Description of the Position
ATA’s Sales and Creative Team has honed the art of putting a new spin on familiar treasures. The team develops extraordinary, theme-based programs—literature, military history, cuisine, current affairs, festivals and performing arts— that bring to life the core mission of a partner organization. Team members are passionate about travel. Whether they are sitting at their desks or out on the road, they travel to a myriad of countries every day—researching, exploring, connecting, and speaking languages from Italian and French to Mandarin.
Internships at ATA provide an opportunity for hands-on experience in the educational travel business and to learn from a staff of dedicated professionals. Interns will get a behind the scenes look at how educational programs are put together. The intern will be part of the Sales and Creative team and be exposed to the wide scope of responsibilities that Program Development team handle.
Creativity through self-driven projects is highly encouraged. Drawing on individual skill sets and interests, interns will work with an ATA staff member to outline internship goals, professional development opportunities and provide mentorship.
This internship is for a minimum of five months for up to 20 hours a week.
We are seeking a candidate with excellent organization and communication skills, and an ability to adapt to several types of working styles. It is helpful to have a solid foundation in world geography, to possess intellectual curiosity, good writing skills, the ability to do many things at once and prioritize competing deadlines with ease.
