Position description

IIE Scholar Rescue Fund (IIE-SRF) fellowships support visiting appointments for threatened scholars to continue their work in safety at partnering academic institutions worldwide. Since 2002, IIE-SRF has assisted more than 760 scholars from 58 countries, placing them at more than 380 host partner institutions in 43 countries around the world. The IIE-SRF Program Analyst manages all phases of pre-grantee administration, grantee management, and monitoring for a complex caseload of scholars from around the world. This individual represents IIE-SRF internally and externally and participates in host partner and scholar outreach.

Essential Functions:

  • Manages a caseload of 30-50 active grantees: conducts university placement outreach for fellowship grantees, considering a variety of factors in accordance with the scholars’ needs and the program’s policies; negotiates placement terms and support with host institutions; prepares grantee and host agreements, compiles grantee documentation for payments, and processes insurance; conducts monitoring, advising, and follow-up with grantees and host institutions; visits grantees and host institutions as needed.
  • Contributes to application evaluation and preparation: responds to applications and inquiries; corresponds with applicants regarding their backgrounds and circumstances; conducts research on applicant backgrounds, circumstances, and home countries; assists with making preliminary eligibility determinations; prepares and conducts written and verbal presentations on applications for the IIE-SRF Selection Committee, which includes leaders in the fields of human rights and higher education, as well as IIE Trustees.
  • Assists  in implementing outreach strategy to promote awareness of fellowships among potential applicants and host institutions.
  • Contributes to internal and external communications: updates IIE-SRF website content and program materials; prepares reports and grantee narrative data; maintains records and databases with up-to-date information on applicants, grantees, and alumni for monitoring and evaluation purposes; represents IIE-SRF at meetings and events; assists in program development, fundraising, and special initiatives, as required.


Education and Experience:

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in order to apply a working knowledge of the theories and principles in a specialized field or work discipline.
  • Requires at least two (2) years of related work experience. 

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills, including superior writing skills, and ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders. Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural skills.  
  • Knowledge of international and US educational organizations and systems, human rights/relief/refugee organizations, or other relevant entities. Demonstrated interest in global affairs.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, handle increasing levels of responsibility, and work with limited supervision.
  • Solid judgement and demonstrated ability to handle sensitive, confidential information in a discrete, professional manner.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills.  Attention to detail.  Flexibility, initiative, and good problem-solving abilities, particularly in ambiguous or complex situations.
