IRC's Global Partnerships and Philanthropy (GPP) department is responsible for the global delivery of the International Rescue Committee’s private sector resources (financially contributing circa USD200m per annum, as well as key partnerships and influence that support our mission), and plays an important strategic role in the creation of IRC’s brand, awareness and support for its advocacy goals.
The IRC's strategy centers on its ambition to continue to improve the scale and effectiveness of IRC programs worldwide with evidence of what works best to impact people’s lives in conflict and fragile settings. GPP comprises colleagues and teams delivering marketing, account management, leadership gifts, board liaison, corporate partnerships, brand stewardship and communications to support this work. These colleagues are primarily located in the USA at present – but IRC plans to significantly expand its global fundraising footprint. Other colleagues within IRC are also deeply engaged with private funding & partners – in particular within Europe, US Resettlement and field programs – and we need to work in close integrated collaboration to ensure best use of resources and highest impact for IRC.
GPP has begun delivering a new radical and ambitious 2020 Private Sector Engagement strategy that will enhance IRC’s ability to ‘punch above its weight’ in income, partnership and awareness. At the same time – believing that the root of our success lies in a high performance team and culture - we need to build our internal infrastructure, ensure we build a strong global team, a dynamic culture, a forward thinking ethos, and establish 21st century analytics, reporting, operational and business management practices that will help us achieve our ambitious goals.
Positioned within GPP, the Institutional Philanthropy & Partnerships (IPP) team has a goal of maximizing private institutional support for the IRC. The IPP team identifies, researches, cultivates, and stewards multi-faceted partnerships with professional foundations, family foundations, and companies through: corporate foundations, corporate social responsibility (CSR), cause-marketing, sponsorship, material support, and employee engagement. IPP also works closely with all IRC departments to coordinate in furthering these relationships and maximizing the impact of private institutions’ support.
The Associate Director works closely with the Director of IPP to create and implement a number of support strategies that maximize private institutional engagement with, and support for, the IRC. The Associate Director oversees a portfolio teams of 3-5 who manage a combination of corporations and foundations, with a specific focus on the Technology sector. The Associate Director demonstrates best-practice thinking and solutions for the entire IPP team towards conceiving, crafting and executing multi-faceted partnerships between the IRC and a range of corporate and foundation clients.
- Provide dynamic and effective practical support and internal thought leadership in identifying, executing and managing strategies for private sector partnerships that contribute to IPP’s revenue targets and that are delivered through a varied portfolio of partnership models, including philanthropy, CSR, marketing and cause-linked partnerships, as well as relationships based in the convergence of business and humanitarian interests and objectives;
- Supervise a robust portfolio team to develop and execute a series of gold-standard partnerships in the technology sector that evidence innovative partnership approaches and that support impactful delivery of the IRC’s mandate and mission;
- Work with the Director of IPP to establish fundraising strategies, goals and benchmarks for the team;
- Team management includes on-going performance monitoring and mentoring, formal performance appraisals and professional development planning;
- Represent IRC when appropriate in partner meetings and other public or partner-facing events;
- Provide comprehensive reporting to the Director and Sr Director of IPP on a number of metrics relating to financial and other targets specific to portfolios;
- Support the involvement of the Director of IPP, Sr. Director of IPP, VP of Development, and other IRC partners (including the CEO & President), in high-level institutional partnership solicitations and relationship management with briefing materials, agendas, background research and appropriate follow-up;
- Support the involvement of the IRC’s Board members and Overseers in cultivation and solicitation of prospects and relevant contribution to donor care;
- Monitor and analyze private partnership trends so that market opportunities may be capitalized on, ensuring that the IRC’s funding proposition remains compelling and competitive;
- Liaise with IRC program team to ensure efficient alignment of donor market opportunities with program strategic priorities and goals, as well as program delivery strengths.
- Bachelor’s Degree – Master’s Degree preferred;
- Minimum 7 years progressive experience in non-profit/private sector partnership setting, including significant new business and client management experience;
- A well-developed knowledge of private sector (foundation and corporate) approaches to NGO/humanitarian partnerships, with a demonstrable understanding of the particular issues affecting the field;
- Experience of working to, and meeting, ambitious revenue goals and other performance indicators, as well as participating in financial projections, reporting, and scenario planning;
- Demonstrated ability to maintain positive, collaborative, productive relationships with staff at all levels;
- Superior written and oral communication and presentation skills, to include: experience speaking to and writing for donors and program staff about program design and implementation in a manner that indicates deep understanding and grasp of nuance; crafting compelling funding proposals and pitch materials;
- Sound judgment in maintaining confidentiality of donor information;
- Ability to translate an organization’s strategy and objectives into operational delivery and, at times, respond quickly to changes in short-term priorities;
- Understanding of the necessary support processes required to deliver effective private sector relationships;
- Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to devise creative solutions to complex problems and issues.
- Experience of working with quantitative and qualitative data sets, with ability to summarize and communicate key points and assumptions from the information;
- Knowledge of Salesforce;
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office;
- Passion for the IRC’s mission and commitment to private sector partnerships;
- Knowledge and interest in emerging concepts and practices in the field of strategic philanthropy, corporate social responsibility, and Public Private Partnerships.
