Position description

The Program Development Associate or Officer will support Search’s global program development, enabling the organization to align financial resources behind its programmatic priorities around the world. The Associate/Officer will work directly with the Global Affairs and Partnerships (GAP) Team, particularly the Senior Program Manager and Director in Washington, DC and Associates and Manager in Brussels. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Global Affairs and Partnerships, the Program Development Associate or Officer will play an integral role in Search’s global program development. 

The Associate/Officer will be responsible for creating and maintaining resources to support program development, identifying funding opportunities and partnerships, and directly supporting or leading proposal efforts for a diverse group of donor governments, institutions, and foundations.

Key Responsibilities:

Roles and responsibilities include:

  • Conducting research and analysis on program development and partnership opportunities;
  • Supporting, coordinating, and writing proposals;
  • Producing organizational resources including capacity statements, past performance reports, and analyses of Search’s fundraising efforts;
  • Designing, developing, and curating knowledge and information management tools;
  • Responding to questions and requests relating to program development from Search staff in country offices, regional program development teams, thematic teams, and finance about a variety of donors, peers, and partner organizations;
  • Representing Search at events and meetings;
  • Build relationships with a variety of donors.

Qualifications

An Associate will have:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in conflict resolution, international development, international relations, or a related field.
  • Experience: At least two (2) years of work experience in conflict resolution, peacebuilding, international development, media, or a related field.

Skills and Competencies Required: 

  • Excellent written and oral English skills;
  • Experience contributing to or leading proposal design and development;
  • Ability to work in a diverse, multicultural organization; Ability to multi-task and work independently;
  • Knowledge of US and other international donors;
  • Flexibility, commitment, and a sense of humor.

An Officer will have:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in conflict resolution, international development, international relations, or a related field. A Master’s Degree is preferred.
  • Experience: At least three (3) years of related work experience in conflict resolution, peacebuilding, international development, media, or a related field;
  • At least two (2) years of work in program development.

Skills and Competencies Required:

  • Excellent written and oral English skills;
  • Proven experience leading the development of successful proposals to government, multilateral, and/or foundation donors;
  • Demonstrable familiarity with the policies, structures, and regulations of USAID, the Department of State, and other government, multilateral, and foundation donors;
  • Demonstrable familiarity with peer nonprofit and for-profit peer organizations in Washington, DC;
  • Ability to work in a diverse, multicultural organization;
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently;
  • Flexibility, commitment, and a sense of humor.

Additional preferred qualifications for the Associate/Officer include:

  • Experience working in a conflict or post-conflict country;
  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint, SALSA, and other information management systems;
  • Willingness to travel on short notice within the U.S. or internationally;
  • Fluency in a second language, particularly French or Arabic
