The University of Delaware Library, Museums and Press seeks two creative and dynamic individuals with social science expertise to join a team of colleagues in the delivery of excellent and responsive research, information and instructional services.
Each position will serve as the Library’s liaison to two or more of the following programs: history, political science and international affairs, psychological and brain sciences, sociology and criminal justice, and women and gender studies. Other subjects may be assigned based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and Library needs.
Reporting to the Head, Reference and Instructional Services Department, the essential responsibilities of these positions include:
Both positions report to the Head, Collection Management and Licensed Electronic Content Department for collection-related activities.
ALA-accredited graduate library degree. Knowledge of information sources and research methodologies related to one or more of the following areas: history, political science and international affairs, psychological and brain sciences, sociology and criminal justice, or women and gender studies. Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal communication and public presentation skills. Knowledge of current developments in scholarship and teaching in one of the pertinent fields, and changing library roles for responding to the evolving needs of faculty, scholars and students.
Awareness of digital scholarship trends and principles. Familiarity with institutional repository tools (Dspace, Fedora, etc.) and practices. Basic knowledge of open access issues and copyright law as applied in library settings. Demonstrated knowledge of and enthusiasm for the integration of new technologies into the delivery of information services. Ability to design and create web-based materials. Flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to work successfully in a complex, dynamic environment with competing demands. Strong commitment to service excellence. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively. Commitment to fostering a diverse educational environment and workplace, and an ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population. Commitment to professional growth.
Preferred: Advanced degree in history, political science and international affairs, psychological and brain sciences, sociology and criminal justice, or women and gender studies. Collection development experience in an academic or research library. Expertise with statistical packages and experience assisting users with qualitative, quantitative and geospatial data in an academic or research library. Experience teaching and integrating information literacy skills and concepts into classes using appropriate technologies. Knowledge of learning management systems and distance education.
