Position description

We are recruiting for a Junior Research Analyst to work in our busy Intelligence & Analysis practice. The role will have an emphasis on the South Asia, but the Junior Research Analyst will also be required to assist on other regions.

The Intelligence & Analysis Junior Research Analyst (JRA) programme is for talented people seeking paid work experience in security and political risk research and analysis. Junior Research Analysts work in direct support of a team of intelligence analysts, and receive mentoring, guidance and practical hands-on experience. Work includes open-source data collection, media monitoring, and writing threat and risk assessments.

JRA roles are temporary positions for around three to six months, which may be extended depending upon performance and business requirements. JRAs are eligible to apply for full-time permanent roles in the company as they become available.

We seek exceptional, rounded and team-oriented professionals with a flair for diligent research and analysis, and a passion for international security and geopolitical affairs. The selected candidate will have impeccable written English.

We are particularly interested in people with a background in security studies, political science, international relations, regional politics, modern history, and languages.

Essential Requirements

  • The right to live and work in the UK
  • A minimum of an upper second-class undergraduate degree

  • Excellent written English

  • Experience researching, analysing and writing on South Asia security issues, geopolitics or political risk

  • Proven research skills, including open source (news and social media), databases, and primary

  • Ability produce cogent and astute analysis under time pressure

  • Prior work experience that demonstrates a professional and mature attitude

  • Enthusiasm for a career in political and security risk consultancy

  • Proficiency in Hindi and/or Urdu

Advantageous Attributes

A master's degree in a relevant subject

  • Work experience in the risk consulting sector, journalism, international relations and foreign policy think tanks, or government

  • Farsi, Dari, Pashto, Bengali and other regional languages

  • Experience living, working or studying in the region

  • Relevant contact networks in the South Asia region

  • Data visualisation or mapping skills
