Position description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Program Associate, Innovation and Entrepreneurship to join our Research Competitiveness Program (RCP). RCP provides strategic assessment, peer review, training, and programs supporting early career innovation and entrepreneurship for governments, universities, foundations, and other STEM organizations around the world. Reporting to the Program Director, you will support the implementation of capacity-building programs and competitions for early-stage STEM entrepreneurs and assist with peer-review and short course programs. The competitions bring together aspiring innovators and entrepreneurs from over 100 emerging economies to present their ideas and startup phase plans for technology innovations through videos to receive mentorship and awards that support their work.

What You’ll Do

  • Participate in entrepreneurial, innovation, and development network research efforts; develop surveys & questionnaires for past participants; collect, assemble, and distribute outreach information
  • Assist with implementing STEM entrepreneurship competitions including the application, internal/external review, public voting, and final pitch competition phases
  • Plan and book arrangements for travel of 30+ participants to the competitions around the world, including visa requirement documents and streamlining internal AAAS processes
  • Provide administrative support, network support, and on-site logistical support for competitions
  • Write, edit, and proof correspondence, program reports, and other documents including creation and editing of program web page as necessary
  • Respond to requests for information verbally or in writing
  • Assist with the administration of peer-reviewed competitions, including reviewer recruitment and processing of honoraria
  • Support the implementation of workshops on aspects of STEM entrepreneurship and professional competitiveness
  • Serve as liaison; initiate and maintain contacts with individuals and organizations on related issues and activities
  • Contribute to the development of proposals and concept papers for new funding
  • Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a science or technology field, international affairs, or business 
  • 1+ year relevant work experience in program management and logistics 
  • Strong desire to learn more about innovation and entrepreneurship in the developing world
  • Experience with international travel or the organization of large events involving international travel logistics
  • Must have a self-starter attitude and ability to identify problems and adapt, often in international settings
  • Excellent verbal, written, and multicultural interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with online platforms for webinars, social media, and website content management systems 
  • Ability to travel to domestic and international events
  • Foreign Language skills in French, Spanish, and/or Arabic a plus
  • Experience approaching potential program funders and donors through meetings, concept papers, and proposals a plus
  • Experience implementing peer-reviewed STEM funding competitions or multi-day workshops a plus
  • Experience in writing and graphical design of flyers, handouts, and press releases a plus
