Position description

The National Committee on American Foreign Policy (NCAFP), a nonprofit membership organization, is seeking a full-time Program Development Officer for an immediate start. The Program Development Officer will be responsible for grant writing, event planning/coordination, and for assisting in fundraising activities. The Program Development Officer will report directly to the President of the NCAFP. For more information on the NCAFP is available at


  • Prepare proposals to grant-making organizations; outreach to the business community and other philanthropic entities in support of NCAFP programs.
  • Coordinate the organization of programs, conferences and Track II meetings hosted by the NCAFP, including all aspects of event planning: identifying participants, preparing agendas and other documents, note-taking, travel/accommodation arrangement, and day-of-event logistics.
  • Coordinate the planning and execution of periodic evening public events.
  • Oversee the NCAFP website, social media and other electronic outreach programs
  • Assist other staff with programs and projects, as necessary.


  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; Knowledge of grant writing, computer programs, website and social media development: Fundraising experience useful.
  • Energetic outgoing personality and entrepreneurial spirit highly desirable.
  • Self-motivated, adept at multi-tasking and prioritizing work.
  • Significant level of tact, diplomacy, and maturity in dealing with internal and external contacts.


  • Bachelor’s degree in international relations or related field required; advanced degree desirable.
  • 2-4 years of experience in development and/or events planning in the nonprofit sector; Strong preference given to candidates with fundraising, grant/proposal-writing experience.
  • Working knowledge of cyber-security policy, U.S. foreign policy, U.S.-Russian relations and security issues in the Middle East.
  • Applicants for this position must be available for immediate employment and possess current US work authorization valid for a minimum of two years from start date.

The position begins in February 2019. No relocation benefits are available. The salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. NCAFP offers a comprehensive benefits package, including employer-paid medical, vision and dental insurance, in addition to three weeks of annual leave.
