Position description

Bruegel welcomes applications from all areas of economic research (macro and micro) for multiple positions as Research Assistant starting in September 2019.

DUTIES

Research Assistants work closely with Bruegel Fellows to conduct research in the forms of Policy Papers, Blueprints, Blogs and external publications and to participate in Bruegel’s events.

We offer a fixed-term contract of one year. All applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in Economics or Financial Economics (or related fields with a major in one of these areas).

Qualifications

Besides a Master’s degree, or equivalent, in Economics, candidates must possess experience in empirical work (at least one year) and have an interest in applied, policy-orientated research in Bruegel’s areas of specialization.

Candidates must demonstrate technical strengths in quantitative economic methods and econometric software. In that regard, some knowledge or experience with software such as Python, STATA or R2 as well as data scraping are highly appreciated. Applicants must also possess a good grasp of economic concepts and be fluent in English, both written and spoken. Versatility, international experience, command of further languages and the ability to work as a team-player are desired.

Here are some specific areas of research, please note this is a non-exhaustive list:

  • Microeconomics: innovation and competition, climate and energy policy
  • Macroeconomics: European/global economics and governance, finance and financial regulation
