Position description

The Project Development Director will lead the project and international proposal preparation in collaboration with faculty and administration. Main responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting faculty in international engagement efforts 
  • Meeting with and establishing liaisons with corporations, foundations, governments, NGOs and international bodies to lay a foundation for project partnership 
  • Identifying potential new international grant and contract activities that build on Purdue strengths; as well as working with faculty, students and staff to develop concept notes, proposals and budgets for new activities
  • Coordinating with project managers and staff to assist faculty/investigators to successfully implement the project
  • Maintaining relationships with key partners 
  • Overseeing the IPIA (International Programs in Agriculture) project portfolio to ensure compliance with donor and university rules 
  • Facilitating resolution of project management, contractual and fiscal issues  
  • Monitoring funding sources from federal and private sector for international research and engagement
  • Representing IPIA in activities related to team building, proposal preparation and appropriate business meetings


  • Masters degree in International relations, Agriculture, Agribusiness or Economics
  • Five years experience in a professional environment that includes: proposal preparation, project planning and management, team building and working with govt. and private sector
  • Demonstrated experience in managing people and processes
  • International experience in developing countries
  • Self-motivated with demonstrated leadership ability to organize and assist in preparing complex projects and proposals 
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a varied group of internal and external partners and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal and other funding agencies and the ability to build new relationships with the same
  • Ability to assess and strategize with IPIA director to develop and implement project vision on an international level
  • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders and a variety of audiences including granting agencies, state and federal representatives
  • Ability to work in an academic environment with cross-cultural sensitivity 
  • Ability to work across disciplinary and institutional boundaries
  • Excellent oral and written communications and interpersonal skills 
  • Strong business sense, communication, organization, team building, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed 
  • A valid US or Canadian driver's license
