Position description

Chemonics seeks a Knowledge director, to join the Project Development and Support Division. The Director leads efforts to drive forward and institutionalize Chemonics’ knowledge enterprise.  S/he oversees the Knowledge, Innovation and Technology team, focusing on strategic direction, value to the company, and service to clients. The director works closely with stakeholders within our global workforce, clients and partners to drive forward our innovation and ICT4D strategies, promote and utilize our institutional partnerships, and create systems and frameworks that make our intangible knowledge assets accessible. Working with our technical practices, s/he develops an organizational culture and enabling environment in which members are driven to learn, build connections with strategic partners, share knowledge, innovate, apply new technical expertise in projects and proposals, and engage in thought leadership within the development industry.  Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the corporate initiative to establish and institutionalize the knowledge enterprise for Chemonics global workforce and technical operations
  • Accountable for the successful exchange of knowledge and innovation across practices, with projects, and with new business development efforts
  • Build a culture where employees worldwide share ideas, innovate, build resource networks to better learn from one another
  • Develop appropriate tools, systems, processes and guidance to capture, share and apply knowledge and best practices into our projects and proposals. Build strategies to streamline knowledge management
  • Coordinate with corporate stakeholders to ensure Chemonics effectively captures knowledge and data products and identify development successes that can be shared internally and externally and used to further build partnerships and enhance business opportunities
  • Provide day-to-day oversight and management of the Knowledge Team
  • Identify and advance opportunities to promote Chemonics’ thought leadership within the industry
  • Represent Chemonics at conferences, events and industry meetings, as needed
  • Serve as a corporate and strategic advocate for the technical practice management teams
  • Supervise the Practice Support Manager and provides guidance and support on creation of tools, resources and processes for effective management of practice teams
  • Liaise with Technical Practice Directors to resolve day-to-day challenges and propose solutions to help elevate practices within the corporate structure and within the development industry


  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of international development experience, with at least two years of long-term field experience implementing USAID or other donor-funded assistance projects overseas
  • Demonstrated record of success in designing and implementing organizational change initiatives
  • Proven experience and a track record of innovation and excellence in a discrete technical field or fields of international development
  • A familiarity with latest thinking in ICT4D and technological innovations in international development required
  • Ability to solve complex technical, managerial, or operational problems and evaluate options based on relevant information, resources and well-rounded experience
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and supervise department staff, multiple project teams, and other initiatives and foster strong mutually supportive team working relationships
  • Ability to operate at advanced levels of authority and manage significant activities, budgets and resources to produce and take responsibility for demonstrated results
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing, and lead presentations, training courses and effective meetings
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
