Who we are:

·      The Consulate General of Canada in New York’s International Business Development team of 16 grows Canadian trade, innovation and investment interests across our territory of NY, PA, NJ, DE, CT and Bermuda. We are well located at Grand Central Station.

What we are offering:

·      Three NYC-based LE-09 International Business Development positions (known as “Trade Commissioners”) with a starting salary of USD 109,224 plus benefits.

·      As an individual contributor, you will have responsibility for a defined commercial sector or function and report to a manager, with flexibility and responsiveness in identifying other areas for growth, provide support to Canadian companies seeking to grow their business through capital-raising, technology commercialization and exports in the region, contribute to the Canadian Technology Accelerator program (www.ctaconnects.com) and/or identify foreign direct investment (FDI) opportunities into Canada. 

·      Responsibility for your own well-funded budget.

·      Opportunity to build and nurture strategic relationships with Canadian business clients; and key local companies, investors, influencers and all levels of government to leverage those relationships on behalf of Canada.

The three positions are:

1. LE-09 Trade Commissioner (Foreign Direct Investment)

2. LE-09 Trade Commissioner (ICT and related verticals, with a focus on venture capital) -Anticipatory

3. LE-09 Trade Commissioner (Infrastructure and the financial sector) - Anticipatory

What will you do?

Position 1: Trade Commissioner (Foreign Direct Investment)

·      Engage local US companies and multinationals to build a pipeline of opportunities to promote Canada as an optimal destination for foreign direct investment;

·      Collaborate with Canadian partners to prospect, advocate for and facilitate greenfield and expansion investments in Canada;

·      Promote Canada’s attractiveness as an investment destination in a sophisticated manner, with a focus on Canada’s advantages in the tech, AI, financial services and energy sectors.

Position 2: Trade Commissioner (ICT and related verticals, with a focus on venture capital)

·      Contribute to the success of Canadian companies that are seeking to grow their business and become global leaders;

·      Work with a rich local network of partners, customers and investors to develop and implement an ambitious strategy and pipeline of opportunities for Canadian companies to penetrate this market.

 

Position 3: Trade Commissioner (Infrastructure and the financial sector)

·      Contribute to the success of Canadian companies that are seeking to grow their business and become global leaders;

·      Work with a rich local network of partners, customers and investors (including financial and institutional) to develop and implement an ambitious strategy and pipeline of opportunities for Canadian companies and stakeholders to penetrate this market.

 How will you do it?

·      Develop, plan and implement sector/function strategies to advance Canadian interests;

·      Manage budgets, track and report on results, plan and deliver targeted events, facilitate official visits, commit to continuous improvement;

·      Build and grow a robust and diverse network of local contacts to nourish your portfolio;

·      Conduct in-depth research to analyze trends and propose innovative approaches;

·      Provide outstanding service to Canadian business clients. 

What we require (essential for the job): 

Education requirement: 

Bachelor’s degree.

Experience requirements:

·      Minimum 2 years recent experience in the private and/or public sectors in business development, venture capital, technology, foreign direct investment attraction, financial sector, economics, international relations, law, entrepreneurship, innovation, among others.

·      Managing and building sophisticated face-to-face relationships;

·      Research and analysis to provide strategic advice, briefings and reports; 

·      Project management including planning, monitoring, budget, reporting and evaluation.
