Position description

The New York Times is looking for an Information Security Trainer with excellent communication skills and a desire to help build awareness across our newsroom and business teams. In this role, you will assist in the creation and execution of information security training and communication across the company. Our goal is to build a culture of security awareness where every member of the staff has a sense of personal responsibility for protecting the company.

 

The mission of the Information Security team is to protect staff, subscribers, sources, and intellectual property of The New York Times and its subsidiaries from unauthorized access, damage, and disclosure. To accomplish this, the team focuses on building relationships across the newsroom, technology, business teams to secure systems, implement tooling, and provide education.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Organize and facilitate information security training, workshops, and events.

  • Develop regular targeted or company-wide communications on various security-related topics and coordinate distribution of materials with the corporate communications team.

  • Develop training-related materials such as guides, handbooks, videos, and web-based tutorials.

  • Coordinate or perform administrative functions necessary to schedule, deliver, and document training program.


 

Position Requirements:

  • 2 - 3 years experience working in a communications role.

  • Ability to break down complex topics and communicate them with employees regardless of technical background.

  • Comfortable with public speaking and an ability to engage regularly with others.

  • Excellent relationship-building and influencing skills in all mediums.

  • An interest in learning about cybersecurity and communicating that knowledge to others.

  • Real passion for The New York Times’s mission and dedication to be part of our innovation and growth. 


 

Nice to haves:

  • Design experience and familiarity with design programs such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

  • Experience in curriculum writing and digital course development.


 

You will gain:

  • A background in Information Security.

  • Familiarity with encryption, multi-factor authentication, online privacy or challenges associated with protecting journalists and sources.

  • Experience working in news media.
