Position description

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a unique global network of policy research centers in Russia, China, Europe, the Middle East, India, and the United States, is seeking a dynamic Media Relations Specialist with experience pitching editorial content and opinion pieces to news media, strong writing skills and a proven track record in cultivating relationships with U.S. and international media to join its communications team in Washington.

The primary responsibility for the successful candidate will be participating in the development of a media strategy that positions Carnegie as a valuable source for journalists covering a breadth of topics pitching content including opinion pieces and media stories, serving as the primary point of contact for all press requests, building relationships with journalists and expanding Carnegie’s network of journalist contacts, monitoring Carnegie’s media coverage, managing the media database and building lists, and supporting Carnegie’s in-house studio.  

Minimum two years of experience in media relations including pitching news stories and opinion pieces is required. An in-depth understanding of, and interest in, foreign policy issues, the international news cycle, and traditional and new media is essential. Excellent attention to detail and communications and writing skills required. The ideal candidate will be energetic, creative, collaborative, and thrive in a team environment.
