Position description

Making Cents seeks a Community Manager for YouthLead.org, an online platform designed to engage and support young changemakers around the globe. The Manager will orchestrate the content and outreach for the platform, working with a variety of sponsors, youth networks, and youth development experts around the world to expand the breadth, depth, and reach of the platform. S/he will be well versed in engaging youth audiences, and skillful at coordinating the myriad inputs necessary for high-quality content of interest to youth ages 18 to 29. The Manager will also contribute to strategies for incentivizing participation in YouthLead, develop sponsor accountability standards, and implement program management protocols to ensure that the platform is “the” place for young changemakers to virtually congregate for learning, sharing, and gaining exposure for their good ideas.

The Manager will oversee content quality and functionality, as the platform must meet the needs of current users, attract new users, and remain up to date and accurate. Platform content includes web page copy, images, videos, blog posts, guest articles, reviews, and occasionally social media and marketing copy, and the Manager will be responsible for reviewing, editing, and approving material before it is posted. S/he will act as a coordinator, quality controller, and sometimes commissioner of content, working with a network of content producers developing and/or managing content in English, Spanish, and other major world languages. S/he will organize occasional user testing and market research to ensure that YouthLead’s content is suitable for the target audience.

S/he will work with other team members to recruit new youth members to engage in YouthLead, which will include helping to develop targeted social media messaging and other outreach mechanisms such as newsletters, webinars, contests, etc. The Manager will also support YouthLead sponsors, including organizing stakeholder and sponsor meetings and reports and providing support for sponsor set up and use of the platform’s discussion groups feature.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree;
  • Five years’ experience with programs or organizations serving youth, women, or other marginalized groups;
  • Demonstrated experience in building vibrant online communities;
  • Experience with social media campaigns;
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written English communication skills;
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office applications;
  • Ability to work in the US without sponsorship required.

Supervision: The YouthLead Community Manager will report to the YouthPower Learning Senior Knowledge Management Specialist.
