WaterAid is the #1 international non-governmental organization exclusively focused on clean water, hygiene and sanitation, and there are 884 million reasons we do what we do. That daunting figure is the number of men, women and children who still do not have clean water close to home.
Since our founding in 1981, we've already empowered 25.8 million people with clean water. That's 25.8 million more healthy and independent people in the world. It’s a great start but we have so much more work to do. With your help, we can end the water crisis.
WaterAid America’s New York office is recruiting two Program Development Officers (PDO) to join the Strategic Partnerships Team (SPT), which annually raises $15M in support of WaterAid’s global mission. One PDO will specifically support WaterAid’s grants to Africa programs (East, Southern and West Africa regions) and the other will specifically support WaterAid’s grants to Asia programs (specifically Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and the South Asia Region). Please see “Where we work” for more detail.
By working closely with US fundraisers and colleagues in WaterAid’s Africa and Asia programs, Program Development Officers (PDO) are responsible for securing, managing and ensuring WaterAid delivers on its grant commitments with corporate, institutional and USAID partners.
Key to helping WaterAid America achieve restricted fundraising goals, PDOs will work with the respective fundraising portfolio leads on strategies for growth, support the acquisition of new partners, and take ownership over the day-to-day management of these partners’ grants and contracts. PDOs ensure that donor requests are communicated to implementing staff, well managed, and that partners receive the highest quality stewardship. While PDOs will focus on restricted grants, s/he should be comfortable to support on communications and any other area of the donor relationship as needed.
These roles function as part of a high-performing team and within a high-energy, fast-paced environment. To be successful, PDOs will possess a strong work ethic and sound judgement, and will be a creative problem-solver, excellent communicator, and bring an appetite to learn. PDOs are expected to take ownership of their work and have high personal expectations. Evening and/or weekend work (<20%) may be required.
This is an excellent opportunity for grant managers to grow personally and professionally while working on one of the world’s most urgent – and solvable – crises.
