Position description

The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity.  Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 200 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.

 

JOB SUMMARY:

The Program Coordinator supports the operational and substantive goals of the International Security Program (ISP)-General, and will be expected to play a key role in the successful administration of ISP-General.  Responsibilities cross all program components, including: correspondence, event coordination, and supporting financial management, project and intern organization, team scheduling, and development.  They report to Dr. Kathleen Hicks, Senior Vice President; Henry A Kissinger Chair; Director, International Security Program.  The role has room for additional growth in program management or research support roles, after mastery of essential duties and responsibilities.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the office and assists the program director including managing travel itineraries as well as the director's calendar and correspondence;
  • Coordinates the program's internal interactions with the International Security Program (ISP) Director's office, External Relations, ISP Director for Outreach, Strategic Planning, Finance and Accounting, the Webmaster, and the Director of Studies offices;
  • Manages external communications, including maintenance of the contact list, sending of event invitations, and dissemination of program publications;
  • Monitors all financial transactions (revenue and expenses) for the program on a monthly basis; supports the development of the program budget, budget reviews, and project and proposal reporting;
  • Manages select ISP-G events and event series;
    • Plans and executes staff meetings, program events, and conferences;
    • Coordinates intern staff in support of program events;
    • Assists with editing and publication of reports and program publications; and
    • Other administrative tasks as needed

Qualifications

  • B.A./B.S. in International Relations, Political Science, or related field (minimum GPA 3.0 or equivalent);
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage administrative responsibilities and tasks;
  • Ability to work closely and cooperatively with a range of individuals with diverse interests, backgrounds, dispositions, and executive levels;
  • Ability to write business correspondence, short program descriptions, and other relevant writing assignments, ;
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple responsibilities under tight deadlines;
  • Must possess strong communication skills including the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from constituency groups, media, governmental entities, and the general public; and
  • Must be computer literate in Windows
