The George Washington University (GWU) International Services Office (ISO) is searching for a detailed oriented International Services Assistant with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced office environment. This position provides customer service to visitors and manages the prospective student relationship after admission through the arrival stage. The core responsibilities of this role are typically to answer routine inquiries over the phone, online, and in person, to provide information to prospective and admitted students on admission requirements, to process and track new international applicant submissions (and review for completeness), to maintain data in systems. This position may also recruit for and schedule interviews, order catering, process payments and provide general admissions support.

The International Services Office (ISO) at the George Washington University facilitates international educational exchange through its services and programs. It serves as the primary administrative, programming, and advising office for the GW international community. The ISO team is a fast paced, results driven group where initiative, teamwork, attention to detail, and customer service are highly valued. Reporting to the Senior International Services Associate, the International Services Assistant is responsible for:

  • Assisting with the facilitation of all international admissions functions within ISO in collaboration with undergraduate admissions and graduate admissions offices within GW’s 10 schools and colleges.
  • Serving as a Designated School Official (DSO) in relation to compliance with F-1 and F-2 regulations of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
  • Serving as an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) in relation to compliance with J-1 and J-2 regulations of the U.S. Department of State & Homeland Security (DHS).
  • Initiating immigration documentation for incoming students with the F-1 and J-1 visa status.

The position is based at GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 1.5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and receive and process a high volume of paperwork.
  • Demonstrate strong communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residence. Per federal regulations, this is a requirement in order to access SEVIS DHS database.
  • Experience with international travel, study, and/or work experiences, is preferred.
