The UNHCR Regional Representation for EU Affairs in Brussels (RREUA) is seeking a candidate to fill the vacancy of the following position: Education Consultant.
UNHCR is currently rolling out the Teaching About Refugees teaching materials project across the wider Europe region (see www.unhcr.org/teaching-about-refugees.org.html). The project involves production and dissemination of teaching materials on refugees, asylum and migration. The aim is to provide primary and secondary school teachers in prioritized European countries with high-quality, factbased teaching materials on the topic as well as professional guidance on challenges related to the presence of refugee children in the classroom (such as stress and trauma and language acquisition difficulties).
Main Duties and responsibilities
The Education Consultant will draft a Concept Note for an On-line Teacher Training Module which will be used in UNHCR’s teacher training activities in Europe to provide teachers with materials to train themselves on the topic of refugees, asylum and migration; to provide teacher training institutes with training materials for use in primary and secondary school teacher training programmes; to offer professional development providers for in-career teachers with training materials on refugees, asylum and migration. The Module should also allow teachers to test their knowledge and obtain a certificate when they successfully complete an evaluation or competence test after completing (parts of) the On-line Teacher Training.
The Education Consultant will carry out preparatory research and write a Concept Note for the Module as well as recommendations for contractors and other contributors UNHCR may engage with to produce the media that need to be included in the Module; the Education Consultant will also draft Terms of Reference for a contractor or partner that may produce teaching materials for the Module.
