Position description

We are recruiting for a Higher Executive Officer (HEO) within the Policy Directorate of the Trade Policy Group (TPG). 

The successful candidate will be based in the International Trade in Goods team, which is responsible for policy development and negotiations on trade in goods. In particular the role will have focus on rules of origin, a key area in any trade agreement. 

We are looking for an HEO who wants to develop and deliver policy at the heart of the government’s future trade agenda. The successful candidate will be strong team member, have good analytical skills, and be able to work collaboratively across government to help shape, support and deliver the high-profile Government objective of an independent trade policy for the UK. 

The Trade in Goods Team aims to be an inclusive and diverse group of people, who work on challenging issues but in a supportive environment and who adopt flexible policies to accommodate a wide range of personal situations. 


Accountabilities 

• Assisting in the development of UK trade policy and priorities for negotiations with a broad range of different countries. 

• Managing relationships and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders. 

• Managing relationships with teams within DIT and other government departments. 

• Preparing and drafting written reports to a high standard and tight deadlines. 

• Supporting senior managers in providing advice to Ministers and handling parliamentary and public correspondence.
