The Learning Network is seeking a creative person with the special combination of experience and skills to join our small team as a full-time staff editor beginning this fall. This position will be based in New York.
Our site promotes teaching and learning with New York Times content. Aimed primarily at high school and middle school students, The Learning Network site features lesson plans, writing prompts, news quizzes, contests and more, all based on Times articles, essays, photos, graphics and videos. Each week we receive thousands of comments from young people around the world.
Responsibilities include helping to:
Assist with the logistics of contest administration, webinar and webcast software (experience not necessary, though a plus)
Produce maps, quizzes, images and PDFs using Adobe, Google and in-house software (experience not necessary, but digital savviness and attention to detail required)
Assist with social media accounts, including Facebook and Twitter
Assist in moderating comments and interacting with readers via the site, email and social media
Respond to teacher emails and inquiries
The ideal candidate will have:
An approach to work that is very organized and detail-oriented
An ability to work on deadline
A deep interest in engaging young people with current events in general, and The New York Times in particular
Excellent writing and editing skills (a plus)
