Contract Type: Indefinite
Hours: Full Time
Closing Date: 1 September 2019

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced litigation lawyer to lead ClientEarth's Climate Programme. The focus of the Climate programme is to mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions consistent with the Paris Agreement temperature goals, across the finance sector, corporate sector and regional, national and local governments in Europe, and globally. Our objective is to encourage a shift towards cleaner, more sustainable and resilient social, political and economic systems, which fully integrate environmental externalities and do not simply pass costs on to future generations.

This position reports to the Chief Counsel and is based in a European office of ClientEarth. The Head of Climate is responsible for managing a team of lawyers and as applicable, other programme staff working on climate accountability and climate finance related litigation and policy. The position has key relationships with the Global Programmes Counsel, Global Director of Strategic Litigation, and the Head of Energy as well as other programme and regional heads.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have strong knowledge and expertise in litigation, a practical, outcome-focused approach to the law and an interest in and understanding of climate and energy-related issues. They will also possess excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to engage with and persuade in multiple settings with a range of internal and external audiences. A demonstrated track record of network and relationship development and engaging with wide variety of external stakeholders is required for this post, as is the ability to perform a management and supervisory role, to build and manage a team and to lead by directing, motivating and enabling others.
