Position description

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is searching for a Senior Associate, USAID Finance & Operations to manage the day-to-day operations for the USAID-funded "Feed the Future Global Food Security Food Safety" project.

GAIN is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with both governments and businesses, we aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people. In particular, we aim to make healthier food choices more desirable, more available, and more affordable. GAIN’s mission is to advance nutrition outcomes by improving consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially those most vulnerable to malnutrition.

The Senior Associate, USAID Finance & Operations will work closely with the Head of North American Finance and the Deputy Project Director to ensure seamless operations, financial management, procurement, compliance, and project management of the USAID-funded "Feed the Future Global Food Security Food Safety" project. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Ensure timely and accurate project budget preparation for GAIN and for partners
  • Prepare financial reports and funds requests to USAID, assist in the preparation and finalization of reports to internal and external stakeholders
  • Support contracting process for the program, ensuring all procurements comply with GAIN and award policies.
  • Research and report on strategic and tactical issues affecting project performance
  • Serve as the administrative point of contact for consultants affiliated with the project


Candidates for this position will be qualified financial professionals with demonstrated leadership, management, decision-making skills and experience working with relevant international NGO and USAID experience. Additionally, candidates should possess strong interpersonal skills to communicate at all levels of finance and non-finance staff to present complex financial matters in a straightforward way. We would be keen to consider candidates who understand the organization’s strategy, long term plans and how this translates into own work area and role.
