Position description

A key objective of this position will be to bring this highly effective model to new communities and to leverage it to advance safe migration and women’s economic opportunity. The successful candidate will help develop innovative approaches to advance the impact of Communities Thrive. S/he will spearhead the integration of these approaches across IREX programs while cultivating partnerships with government, foundation, corporate, and individual donors to advance the mission of Communities Thrive. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of global community development and cohesion initiatives, international development, and proven experience with the philanthropic and CSR communities. S/he will continually identify and assess the competitive landscape for new opportunities to raise revenue in support of our community-led initiatives and the IREX - READ Global partnership as part of IREX’s overall organizational goal of strengthening civic and public institutions. This will include working closely with the IREX Strategy and Development Group to incorporate innovative ways of fostering community cohesion and to drive positioning efforts, outreach, philanthropic and CSR market assessments, partnership cultivation and fundraising to advance identified business development priorities in community development. S/he will also provide critical day-to-day management support of the Communities Thrive partnership.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with READ Global to adapt the model to new geographies and contexts;
  • Harness the READ model, IREX’s existing programs, and existing or emerging partnerships with other organizations and donors to advance safe migration and women’s economic opportunity;
  • Develop or refine innovative approaches to advance the impact of Communities Thrive;
  • Collaborate with community centers to assess impact, publicize successes, and share lessons learned;
  • Work across IREX to identify synergies and integrate lessons learned from Communities Thrive in other programs and activities of IREX;
  • Provide management and oversight of community development projects, ensuring high quality and timely services, deliverables and results;
  • Ensure compliant management of projects and their finances;
  • Develop solutions to implementation obstacles both in the field and in DC;
  • Work closely with READ Global, IREX’s institutional partner in Communities Thrive, to develop a fundraising and partnership engagement plan;
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with individual, corporate and foundation donors;
  • Initiate, create or co-create, and market services and products which advance the impact of Communities Thrive to potential funders and partners;
  • Develop or co-develop a marketing and communications plan for IREX-READ Global partnership in partnership with the READ Global team;
  • Organize and/or support public events to foster new partnerships and outreach;
  • Work with the Strategy and Development team to proactively shape new business opportunities for IREX, and the IREX-READ Global partnership in particular;
  • Lead (and/or author portions of) proposal efforts which reflect best practices, cutting edge approaches, research, and relevant insight.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; graduate degree preferred;
  • Minimum four years of experience working in community-led development initiatives;
  • Deep familiarity with community led development;
  • Demonstrated experience in writing successful fundraising proposals;
  • Proven ability to engage diverse donors resulting in new partnerships and/or direct funding;
  • Proven ability to develop communications and/or marketing campaigns and materials;
  • Demonstrated program management and strategic planning expertise;
  • Superior writing, editing, and oral presentation skills, including the ability to speak confidently in front of large, diverse audiences as evidenced by successful;
  • Strong organizational skills including ability to prioritize, multi-task, and adhere to strict deadlines;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Proven supervisory and mentoring skills;
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite;
  • International work, volunteer, or study experience preferred;
  • Ability to travel internationally.
