Position description

The Council’s David Rockefeller Studies Program is one of the country’s largest foreign policy think tanks with a widely respected and influential research staff. The Studies Program’s aim is to advance the discussion of American foreign policy and international affairs through its writing, publications, public outreach, and discussions.

As part of the Studies Program, the Women and Foreign Policy Program works to analyze how elevating the status of women and girls advances U.S. foreign policy objectives. The Research Associate role will support a book project examining the global implications of the #MeToo movement. The research associate will work with a senior fellow within the Women and Foreign Policy Program.

This part-time position (18 hours per week) will end in July 2020.

  • The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):
  • Researching specific areas, as requested by the fellow. Tracking news and data sources on women’s issues and international economic issues. 
  • Assisting with fact-checking, proofreading, summarizing research findings, and editing of written materials, including articles, blog posts, memos, and correspondence
  • Coordinating events, including preparing invitations, making international travel arrangements, corresponding with speakers and presiders, preparing background papers and materials for distribution, and providing other logistical support.
  • Providing administrative support to the fellow, handling correspondence, scheduling and calendar management, and responding to media and information requests.
  • Assisting with social media outreach, including publishing a blog, website, video, and/or using social media applications.

Qualifications

  • Graduate student preferred. BA degree in international relations, political science, or related social sciences field; demonstrated interest or coursework in women’s issues, development, or international economics preferred, with strong academic credentials.
  • Proficiency in one of the following languages: Arabic, Urdu, Igbo or Hausa.
  • Cultural knowledge of South Asia, Middle East/North Africa, and/or West Africa preferred.
  • 1+ year(s) related administrative and/or internship experience preferred.
  • Outstanding research, writing, editing, and proofreadingskills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and internet research.
  • Experience with budget management and/or website maintenance preferred.
